Saturday (BLD)
We take a morning flight to Luxor ( air fare is always included in economy

to the West Bank to tour :to get a totally different perspective on
ancient Egyptian life, at the ancient workers' settlement of Deir el-Medinah.
While most of the imposing stone monuments and sites of Egypt honor
the lives and after-lives of royalty, Deir el-Medinah gives us unique
and surprising insights into the ordinary citizens who constructed and
decorated the tombs.
Here we'll
see the excavated homes shared by laborers with their domestic animals.
These quarters were surprisingly large, with three good-sized rooms,
courtyard, kitchen, and even storage cellars. While ancient Egypt might
not have been a workers' paradise, we'll see that artisans and builders
were highly regarded in their community. We are proud to be the only
operator to offer regular visits to this singular ancient settlement
in its tour and cruise programs, back to Luxor Luxor
and settle into our cabin aboard our luxury air-conditioned Nile
cruiser, then go back onshore to explore the huge Temple of Luxor and
the truly gigantic Great Temple of Amon at Karnak. Relax in the
evening, as we take you on a private horse-drawn carriage ride and
to take a stroll along the Nile or explore Luxor's lively bazaar
and water front.
DAY 9 - LUXOR - ESNA, Sunday (BLD)
Crossing the Nile, we tour the magnificent tombs in the Valley of the
Kings , the great Temple of Queen Hatshepsut and the Colossi
of Memnon. After a shipboard lunch, our cruiser glides up the
Nile toward the Esna locks, where we dock for the night.
DAY 10 - ESNA & EDFU, Monday (BLD)
We continue our cruise, passing timeless Nile-side villages until we
reach Edfu, where we board horse-drawn carriages to clip-clop
through the town. Our goal is the grand Temple of Horus, the
best-preserved ancient temple on the Nile. After our temple tour, we
return by carriage to our cruise vessel and continue upriver,
docking at Kom Ombo for the night.
DAY 11 - KOM OMBO - ASWAN, Tuesday (BLD)
We begin our day by touring the famous Twin Temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated
to Horus (the sun God) and Sobek (the crocodile God). The sun
disc symbol is prominent, as is a tomb for mummified crocodiles!
Then we re-embark for the cruise to Aswan. After a leisurely
shipboard lunch, we board a traditional Felucca for a sail among
the rocky islands below the Nile's First Cataract. If you're
interested, we'll take you on a mini-camel caravan to a Nubian village.
Late in the afternoon we sail back to our Nile cruiser for dinner
and a good night's sleep.
DAY 12 - ASWAN - CAIRO, Wednesday (B)
After breakfast, we check out of our Nile cruiser and head off to see
the great Aswan High Dam, a technological marvel of its time.
From the dam we go to an ancient Pharaonic rock quarry where
a huge obelisk of red Nile granite lies unfinished--as though
the workers put down their tools just yesterday, rather than
thousands of years ago. Finally, we tour the beautiful Temple of Philae,
saved from the rising waters of Lake Nasser by an international rescue
effort and rebuilt on its own Nile Island. A short flight returns
us to Cairo, and our hotel.
